The 2,510 hectares Elizalde Lake is the most well known lake in the Aisen Region. It is long and narrow, with a length of 25 kms, and a width of 2kms, average. It's surrounded by dense Coigüe and Lengas forests and forms part of a group of 5 lakes that drain towards the west to Puerto Aisen. This place can be reached by a gravel road.
The lake has waves all the time due to the exposed position to the winds form the west. The water temperature is about 11°C. Because of its characteristics, this is an ideal place for recreational activities in the area, such as trout fishing, horse back riding, bicycling, and at the lake front at Puerto Yates boats can be rented. There is an area with camping called La Cascada (the Waterfalls). The name comes from the waterfalls that can be found around the area. This place also has a shelter and hostel. Near the extreme west side of the Elizalde Lake , and sharing the same water drainage way, we can find the Caro Lake . These lakes can be crossed one to the other by a short boat ride.
Finally, the lake drains into the Blanco River and this into the Aisen River.
