Portillo Ski Resort

Located in ValparaÃso Region, 164 km. away from Santiago and 2.860 mts. above mean sea level, Portillo Ski Resort is one of the oldest, most beautiful, and famous ski centers in our country. Amongst its highlights you can find a snow-making system, a lake called Laguna del Inca, and, of course, its ski runs, where many world records have been broken. With "snow powder" in its 23 fields, there is much more to this center than just skiing: heliskiing and snowboarding are the perfect choice for those who are looking for some more adrenaline.
Portillo Ski Resort does not only offer magnificent runs and a beautiful environment in which to ski. Portillo Hotel has also made available a great variety of services to make your stay more relaxing and comfortable. These include a heated swimming pool, gym, sauna, restaurants, nursery, transportation, entertainment room, courts, cinema, and a ski school, among others.

How to get there
From Santiago to Los Andes: leave Santiago through Ruta 5 Norte. After 30 km, having passed the tollgate, take the exit towards Los Andes (ruta 57). From then on (to Portillo), take the International road. During ski season, the use of snow chains is compulsory.

Tracks and Lifts

The longest run in Portillo is 3.2km (2 miles). and the highest skiable point is 3,322 meters (10,896 ft.) above sea-level.
Ten percent of the skiable area belong to runs which are graded easy, seventy percent to intermediate-advanced, and the remaining twenty percent is very difficult. The runs are marked with colors according to their level of difficulty: green is beginner and beginner-intermediate, blue is intermediate-advanced, and black is just for experts. Unlike green and blue, black tracks are not groomed everyday.
Amongst the black runs, the most well-known is called "Roca de Jack", where the 200 k/h barrier was first broken.
For those who enjoy the benefits of snow powder, some advanced tracks, such as La Garganta, Cóndor, and Roca de Jack, are left unotuched when the wheather conditions allow so. Those who like freeride skiing will find the perfect choice in the area by Roca Jack and Condor, provided this is done within the area guarded by the ski center, taking all the necessary precautions.

Portillo is equipped with drag lifts, chair lifts, and va et vient ski lifts, with which skiers can move between tracks of different levels, going up to a maximum of 3,322 meters above sea level.
