Itinerary from Puerto Montt to Puerto Natales

Check-in is from 09:00 to 11:00 at our offices at AngelmĂł # 1735, Puerto Montt, where our port staff will check in your luggage and, if you have made a reservation to travel with a vehicle, give you instructions for boarding it. Passenger boarding time is at 14:00. Once on board, members of the crew will give a welcome talk together with some tips and guidelines on safety. Then we begin our navigation at 16:00 hrs, to the Patagonian fjords and with the Puerto Natales as our final destination. Our journey begins with the crossing of the ReloncavĂ Sound followed by the Gulf of Ancud. At nightfall we arrive at the Gulf of Corcovado. The great adventure is just beginning

In the morning we sail the Moraleda Channel, the widest in all our route. Next we sail through the Errázuriz and Costa Channels before entering the Pulluche Channel, which has an abundance of vegetation (Lenga and Cypress forests). If we are in luck, we will get to see some “Toninas” (dolphins), sea lions and several species of wild bird. At nightfall we enter the open sea as we cross the Golfo de Penas. The crossing takes approximately 12 hours and during this stretch, sightings of humpback whales are sometimes possible (depending on the time of year and the weather).

At dawn we will be sailing past the fjords and starting our journey through the Messier Channel which at 1.270 meters (4,000 feet) is one of the deepest in this region. As we sail up this channel, we will be able to see the cargo ship “Capitán Leonidas”, which ran aground in the 1970s on the semi-sunken island of “Bajo Cotopaxi”. The wreck currently serves as a lighthouse and as a point of reference for sailors. Shortly after this, we cross the “Angostura Inglesa” (English Narrows), and arrive at Puerto Edén, which is home to the last surviving population of the Alacalufe indigenous people in Chile. Puerto Eden is on Wellington Island, one of the largest islands in Chile and part of Bernardo O’Higgins National Park – the largest in Chile – covered by Magellanic Forest. (Disembarkation at Puerto Edén is only possible if sea conditions, itinerary and weather permitting).

At dawn we will sail through the Sarmiento Channel, before arriving at the narrowest stretch of the voyage, the Angostura White (White Narrows), which are only 80 meters wide. We will then continue our voyage across Seno UniĂłn (Union Sound) before we enter the channel that will lead us to Puerto Natales, the final destination of our great adventure.
Itinerary from Puerto Natales to Puerto Montt

Check-in is from 10:00 until 19:00 at our offices located at Pedro Montt #262, Puerto Natales, where our port staff will check in your luggage and, if you have made a reservation to travel with a vehicle, give you instructions for boarding it. Boarding time for passengers is 21:00 hrs. Once on board, members of the crew will give a welcome talk to the passengers, along with some guidelines regarding safety on board. Our journey will take us through the Patagonian fjords towards our final destination of Puerto Montt.

We set sail at dawn, crossing Seno UniĂłn (Union Bay) and on through the Angostura White (White Narrows), which, at only 80 meters wide, is the narrowest stretch of the route. We then reach the southernmost latitude of our
voyage, Sobenes Pass, from where we continue on along the Farquhar to the Sarmiento channel. In the afternoon we will reach Peet Inlet.

We will arrive to Puerto Edén at sunrise, which is located in Wellington Island, one of the biggest in Chile. It is part of Bernardo O’Higgins National park. We continue our voyage, heading North as far as the Angostura Inglesa (English Narrows), so narrow that only one ship can pass through at a time. From here we will sail through Messier Channel, where the cargo ship “Capitán Leonidas”, which ran aground in the 1970s on a semi-sunken island called “Bajo Cotopaxi”can be seen. Nowadays, the ship is used as a lighthouse and a point of reference for sailors. Towards evening, we will set sail over the ocean across the Gulf of Penas. This open-sea crossing lasts approximately 12 hours.
During this time you may be able to see humpback whales (depending on the time of year and the weather). (Disembarkation at Puerto Edén are only possible if sea conditions, itinerary and weather permitting).

At dawn we will arrive at Inchemó. We will sail up the Pulluche Channel, the most abundant in vegetation (“Lenga” and Cypress forests) and, if we are lucky, we might spot some “Toninas” (dolphins), sea lions and wild bird species. Next we will sail through the Errázuriz and Costa Channels before arriving at the Moraleda Channel after lunch. This will finally lead us to the Gulf of Corcovado, where, at certain times of the year, Blue Whales can sometimes be sighted.

As we approach the end of our journey, we sail across the Gulf of Ancud and ReloncavĂ Sound, before arriving at Puerto Montt in the morning.

 Excursions includes

ferry fiordos We will navigate through the canals that were created as a result of the advance of the thick sheets of ice twelve thousand years ago, sculpting the physiognomy of the place. During the trip we will be able to enjoy the different birds and marine species such as the dolphin, sea lions, and occasionally orca whales and humpback whales in the open sea. In this zone, the world continues to be wild and untamed, inspiring many writers such as Jules Vern, Lord Byron, Francisco Coloane… These canals were inhabited by the Chonos in the Chiloé area, the Kawegar in the canals from the Strait of Magellan to the Gulf of Penas, Yaganes to the south, and the Onas in Tierra del Fuego.

The ship will leave the Puerto Montt Transhipping Pier, crossing the Reloncaví Inlet and continue to the Gulf of Ancud. After reaching the Gulf of Corcovado, from where we can see the Volcano with the same name with a height of 2,300 meters, we will go into the Moraleda Canal or the Northern and Southern Pérez Canals. The island territory is part of the peaks of the Costal Mountains that sank into the sea creating the Guaitecas Islands. After this we will pass through the fishing coves of Puerto Aguirre and Caleta Andrade, to later enter the Aysén Inlet. After this we will go into the Pacific Ocean which generally generates more movement of the ship, depending on the weather conditions. We will go along the Taitao Peninsula that belongs to the San Rafael Lagoon National Park. After this we will cross the Gulf of Penas in approximately 10 or 16 hours. This crossing was always done by the aboriginal pre hispanics and by John Williams in 1843 in the Ancud Schooner making sovereignty in the strait with the founding of the Bulness Fort.

The navigation begins through the Patagonian Canals. We will see the Bernardo O'Higgins National Park with its 3.5 million hectares. This is where we will find the Pío XI Glacier. After this we will continue through the Messier Canal where we will see the colour changes in the water due to the Southern Ice Fields. Then continue through the Angostura Inglesa to arrive at Puerto Edén, a small cove with 200 inhabitants, where the last of the Kawesgar live. We will pass through the Kirke or Santa Marìa Canals with their respective narrowing to Kirke and White.

The trip will continue through the canals and islands populated by more yet untouched dense native forest. In this passage the fjords become narrower and the waterfalls come from the mountains; the majesty and silence of the Patagonian canals.

To finish we will enter the lower Patagonia and navigate through the Almirante Montt Gulf to arrive at the Ultima Esperanza Inlet and Puerto Natales, the capital of this province, where we can see the Black Necked Swans and do excursions in the Torres del Paine National Park.
