Lake Lleu Lleu
The Lake Lleu Lleu , which in the Mapuche language means to "melt" or "crumble", is located 12 meters above sea level and 14 kms southwest of Contulmo. It has a surface of 4,300 hectares and, it is located in the middle of the Nahuelbuta Mountains, and it is considered the purest lake in Latin America.
Set between hills and lonely beaches, this lake has privileged scenic landscapes. Unlike other nearby lakes like Lanalhue, Lleu Lleu has not been intervened by tourist, although there are camping facilities and cabins. In the river connecting it to the sea there are small motor boats offering circuits to the four arms of the lake that run between the steep hills and valleys that become water-logged in the winter.
The lake is good for water sports and boating. Due to the purity of the water there is plenty of high quality fish such as trout, salmon and mackerel.
