Bussiness Information
Bussiness Schedule
Business or working days are from Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 18:00. Bussiness meetings generally start at 10:00.
Most important, you need to consider that banks attend clients from 9:00 to 14:00.
Bussiness Attire
Business meetings are generally conducted in formal attire, unless they take place in the countryside or in entertainment facilities. Formal attire is a two-piece suit combined with a tie. The tuxedo or dinner jacket is used only for very formal events, while dark suits are recommended for evening engagements and funerals.
Customary conduct
It is unusual to conclude or to reach an agreement over a business proposal at the very first meeting. Each party takes its time when it comes to solving business issues, and this may take longer than expected. Leaving matters standing-by is a well known commercial strategy here and, therefore, putting too much emphasis on quick bussiness decisions is not well received.
Chilean businessmen and women
Chilean businessmen and women are serious, honest and hard working. However, this much correct behaviour in bussiness becomes quite confusing when it comes to stating lack of interest or simply uttering a straight "no" over a bussiness proposal. Thus, it is not unusual for bussiness men around here to just leave you waiting. Phrases like "al tiro" which means "inmmediately" or "ASAP" should not always be taken literally.
You should be aware that  bribery is not costumary in Chile at all, as it might be in other places in Latin America. For a police officer (or Carabinero) it's a severe offence. So, don't even think about bribing!
