Internet

Use of Internet is quite widespread and it's easy to get access to it locally. Most hotels grant free internet access to their guests, either through wireless connection for laptops or in computer rooms specially designed for that purpose.

Also, there are several cybercafes where you can rent a computer with internet access for approximately 500 pesos (1 dollar) an hour. However, if there's a laptop computer available, it's best to find a coffee shop that provides wireless connection. For more information about them, have a look at our cybercafes map here.

Telephone

Local phone calls

There are many phone booths across the city. For this, we recommend you to buy a phone card or keep CL$100 pesos coins at hand. Making calls from an hotel room often charges and additonal fee, depending on the hotel.

Long distance phone calls

In Chile, long distance calls are cheap and multi-carrier services are available to be used on any phone. Most shopping malls have call centres where you can obtain information, make reverse charge calls or buy calling cards.

To make a long distance national call (to another region within Chile):

To make an international call:

Mobile Phones

Mobile phones are widely used and can be easily rented by either paying for just a single device or with a SIM card included. Many companies even offer cell phone rental services at the airport.

Mail Services

The company in charge of the postal service delivery is ‘Correos de Chile.’ This service is safe, reliable but somewhat slow:  a letter could take around 5 to 20 days to reach its destination abroad, whereas small packages between 10 and 20 days.

However, by paying a special fee it is posible to certify letters in order to make sure the addressee receives them. Moreover, there is a courier delivery service that ensures packages and documents deliveries within 24, 48 and 72 hours, accepting full responsability for any losses or damages.

Post offices open during the week from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 p.m. to 12 p.m. More Information: Correos de Chile.
