Tierra Patagonia Hotel & Spa is a hotel with a casual but luxurious design with 40 rooms. The environment of the hotel is inspired on the Patagonia which radiates warmth, security and the union of everything wanted by those who’ve been out all day in excursions or just arriving. The hotel is located on a crag in the joint of the enormous pampa and the Sarmieto Lake.
A lot of care was put into the architecture of the Tierra Patagonia so it included the patterns, the flow and the geology of its privileged location. Â The escence of the interior decoration is authentically Patagonian, with handmade furniture, details using natural materials from the area and the highest quality labor.
The Hotel is seasonal and will be closed for the winter of the south hemisfere from April 30th to September 1st 2012.
As a guest you’ll enjoy an all-included Patagonian experience, with excelent guided excursions, delicious and healthy typical food, open bar, and you’ll have access to the facilities of the UMA spa including the indoor pool and the outdoor Jacuzzi.

Rooms The hotel has 3 suites and 37 double rooms. All rooms have views of the Sarmiento Lake and of Torres del Paine. The rooms are decorated with authentic details and styles from the Patagonia, and are designed for capturing the heat and feeling the comfort in a cozy room in such a remote and wild place.
The excursions of Tierra Patagonia are directed by expert, qualified and experienced guides. They will take you to sublime walks, boat trips along the glacial lakes, horseback riding in the Patagonian steppe and exciting excursions into the mountains. We’ll show you every corner of the National Park, as well as the less visited areas, you’ll be taken to internationally renowned places and will have the opportunity to share with locals who work and live in this unique environment. You’ll experience a weather that is constantly changing and you’ll also feel the famous Patagonian winds.

Duration: 3 to 4 hrs - Difficulty: Easy. This trip makes possible an exploration of the western area of the Torres del Paine Park. There are amazing views during the entire trip including views of the waterfall of the Paine River, the cuernos and varied landscapes. Visit to the Grey Lake’s beach where you would be able to observe the Grey Glaciar in the distance. Besides the views, there are plenty of opportunities to see animals like guanacos, rheas and different types of birds. The guide also gives information about the geological and glacial action in the zone. Duration: 4 to 5 hrs - Difficulty: Easy. Enjoy the Eastern area of the Torres del Paine Park, visitng the Laguna Amarga viewpoint, the Nordenskjold Lake, the Sarmiento Lake, the Pehoé viewpoint and the Serrano River viewpoint. This excursion makes possible to see great part of the park as well as the opportunity to see several animals in their natural environment. Duration: 3 to 4 hrs - Difficulty: Easy. This excursion starts in the hotel with destination to Laguna Azul. On the way to the west you’ll be able to observe incredible views of the Paine Massif. When you get to to Laguna Azul you’ll have the opportunity to take a calm walk to find good views and typical animals of the area. Duration: 3 to 4 hrs - Difficulty: Easy. Heading to the north you’ll find the 3R ranch, located in the Sierra Baguales Valley with amazing views to the Condoreras. There are plenty of opportunities to take panoramic pictures, apart from the chance of taking a short walk through the ranch and Sierra Baguales. Duration: 7 to 8 hrs - Difficulty: Easy.The route takes a whole day to explore the National Park Torres del Paine, visiting its most important places. You’ll visit Laguna Amarga, Nordenskjold Lake, Sarmiento Lake, Pehoé viewpoint, Serrano River viewpoint, Grey Lake and the waterfalls of the park. This excursion includes a delicious lunch in the park.
Hikes
Duration: 2,5 to 3,5 hrs - Difficulty: Easy. Enjoy an 8-kilometer hike in the area of Laguna Azul. You’ll start from the hotel and advance for about 20 minutes to the north where the hike starts. You’ll go around the east side of the Laguna azul both ways. This trail has views of the Paine towers and the lake. Duration: 4,5 to 5,5 hrs - Difficulty: Easy. You’ll set off in a van from the hotel for about 35 minutes to the Lazo ranch. The 11-kilometer hike starts, both ways by the same trail along the South coast of the Sarmiento Lake before ascending to the Lazo viewpoint. There are frontal views of the Paine Grande, the cuernos and Almirante Nieto. Duration: 3,5 to 5 hrs - Difficulty: Easy. Starts leaving the hotel in a van for about an hour to the area of salto chico with a 3-kilometer hiking circuit with views of the Pehoé Lake and the Paine Massif. You continue in the van to the Sarmiento Peninsula for a 4.5-kilometer walk, visiting the entire peninsula. You’ll also go to el Toro mountain range, Sarmiento chico Lake, Sarmiento Peninsula, thrombolites formations and cuernos del Paine. Duration: 2 to 2,5 hrs - Difficulty: Easy/Intermediate. From the hotel the trip starts in a van for about 20 minutes to the area of Laguna Azul where the hike starts heading to cañadon macho. In all, the 5.5-kilometer hike has views of the Patagonian steppe with a dramatic scnery of burned Lenga trees, the towers and Almirante Nieto. Apart from this it gives the opportunity to catch sight of varied wildlife. Duration: 4 to 5 hrs - Difficulty: Intermediate. Enjoy a hike of 6 km bothways by the same trail. There are views of the Salto grande, viewpoint over the Nordenskjold Lake across from the cuernos and the del francés Valley. After this you’ll go in a van to the Pehoé camping where you’ll start another hike. This 3.5-hike has views of the Pehoé Lake, Paine River and Paine Massif. * There are strong winds in this area, so it won’t be possible to take the hike everyday. Duration: 4 to 5 hrs - Difficulty: Intermediate. From the hotel, the excursion starts with a one-hour trip by van to the Paine grande area. Then you’ll go sailing for about an hour around the Pehoé and Grey Lakes. During the trip you’ll go around the Paine grande, the Grey Lake and its glaciers, nothafagus forests and the stunning Grey Glaciar.*Extension Grey Glacier: Duration 2 to 3 hours - Difficulty: Intermadiate/Advanced. Hike with priviledged views above the Grey Glacier. Duration: 2,5 to 3,5 hrs – Difficulty: Intermediate/Advanced. From the hotel, the excursion starts with a one-hour trip by van. Then it’s a 6-kilometer hike through the area of salto chico, both ways by the same trail. It’s a solitary place where you’ll be able to enjoy the tranquility with views of the Paine River, the Pehoé Lake, conglomerate blocks and Lakal Lake. Duration: 3 to 4 hrs - Difficulty: Intermediate/Advanced. This excursion starts from the hotel with a one-hour trip by van to the paso la feria area with a 7-kilometer hike both ways. You’ll see the Paine River, Pehoé Lake, Lenga tree forests, Paine Massif and the eastern area of the park. It is an excellent excursion for photography. Duration: 1,5 to 2,5 hrs - Difficulty: Easy/Intermediate. From the hotel you travel by van for about 1.5 hrs the administration area. A 4-kilometer hike in a circuit that is completely within an ecotone area. You’ll find views of the Paine River’s mouth and the Toro Lake. You’ll also have the opportunity to see a wide variety of flowers and bushes. *Extension Alto del Toro viewpoint (Difficulty: Advanced): A 4-kilometer hike (2.5 to 3.5 extra hours) with panoramic views of the el Toro Lake, Pehoé Lake, Nordenskjold, Paine Massif, among others. **Extension Full day Alto del Toro (Difficulty: intermediate/advanced) a 14.5-kilometer hike (6 to 7 hours in all) with views of the Paine River, Pehoé Lake, lenga trees forests and solitary trails. Duration: 3 to 4 hrs - Difficulty: Advanced. From the hotel you travel by van for about an hour and 40 minutes to the area of the Grey Lake. A 6-kilometer hike bothways by the same trail. Complete views of the eastern side of the park, including the massif, Grey Glacier and 5 lakes. One of the best views of the park. Duration: 6 to 8 hrs (full day) - Difficulty: Intermediate. From the hotel you travel by van for about 30 minutes to Estancia las Chinas where you’ll enjoy a long hike to Sierra Baguales with amazing views and total peace. You have to be prepared for uphill and downhill paths. There’s a good chance to catch sight of local fauna. Duration: 6 to 7 hrs (full day) - Difficulty: Intermediate/Advanced. A hike from the area of Estancia Lazo to the Weber Bridge, traveling from the hotel by van for about 35 minutes. During the hike you’ll visit solitary trails with large forests, many lakes and amazing views in the Altos del Toro viewpoint. Duration: 7 to 9 hrs (full day) - Difficulty: Advanced. Hike along the area of the Grey Lake bothways through the same way. The trip starts leaving the hotel by van heading to the west for about hour and a half. There the 27-kilometer hike starts, visiting a 100-year-old nothafagus forest, Pingo River’s waterfall and view of the Pingo Glacier. Duration: 5,5 to 6,5 hrs (full day) - Difficulty: Intermediate. From the hotel, 1 hour traveling by van. Then, a 16-kilometer hike through the area of Salto chico to Sarmiento Lake where you’ll see lenga tree forests, pristine trails and views of the Lakal Lake. It ends coming to the Sarmiento peninsula and amazing views of the Paine Massif. Duration: 6,5 to 7,5 hrs (full day) - Difficulty: Advanced. From the hotel you travel by van for about 25 minutes to begin the 19-kilometer hike. This route goes through lenga trees forests and you’ll enjoy views of the Ascencio Valley and the Towers. This is a road that goes uphill and downhill which is part of the W circuit. Duration: 10 to 11 hrs (full day) - Difficulty: Advanced. 31-kilometer hike that starts with a 25-minute trip by van. Then the hike starts in the area of the las torres lodging house, going through valleys next to the massif along the Paine River to see the Paine Towers from the north. Duration: 7 to 8 hrs (full day) - Difficulty: Intermediate. Starts with a 25-minute trip by van to the area of Las torres lodging house. Bothways by the same trail walking in all 22 kilometers. Views of the cuernos from their base and the Nordenskjold Lake by its northern shore which is part pf the famous W circuit.. Duration: 8 to 10 hrs (full day) - Difficulty: Advanced. Starts with a 25-minute trip by van. Then the hike begins in the area of las torres lodging house. The hike with a total of 33 kilometers bothways by the same trail goes along the Almirante nieto, advancing into the Del Francés Valley to observe its hanging glacier, the Nordenskjold Lake and del Francés Lake. * Plateau extension (advanced) 2 to 3 extra hours with amazing views from the plateau. * Extension Bitish camp (Advanced) 2 to 3 extra hours to get to the heart of the massif with views to amazing granite formations.
By Bicycle
Duration: 3 to 4 hrs - Difficulty: Easy. Excursion to Segunda Barranca from Cerro Guido ranch looking for fauna like guanacos, birds and White-tufted Grebe, among others. This trip will take you through a lake by a straight road. Duration: 3 to 4 hrs - Difficulty: Intermediate/Advanced. There are several options for bicycle excursions with a higher level of difficulty which you’ll be able to discuss with the guide in the hotel so as to find the most suitable trip for your personal interests and skills. There are bicycles in the hotel available for you. You can ask for them in the reception and they can be used at all times to enjoy the Sarmiento area.
Horseback riding (Subject to weather conditions)
Duration: 2 hrs - Difficulty: Easy. This excursion is ideal for people without much experience with horses. An introductory session will be held for those who need help so as to feel more comfortable riding. It starts in the Cerro Guido ranch to the lenga tree forest. During the excursion you’ll enjoy amazing views of the Sarmiento, El Toro mountain range, Paine Towers and Baguales mountain range. Duration: 4 hrs - Difficulty: Intermediate. For those with some experience this is the opportunity for a horseback ride that goes thorugh the pampa in a flat area with views of the Paine Towers. The excursion is perfect for exploring the pampa with plenty of chances to gallop as wanted. Duration: 4 to 6 hrs (full day) - Difficulty: Advanced. This trip crosses the Baguales River and continues in the mountainside of the Baguales mountainrange, it is absolutely gorgeous. There are opportunities to gallop, but it’s important to say that this excursion is only for people who have experience with horses. You’ll visit the Condoreras with incredible views of the Paine Towers finding varied fauna along the way. Duration: 4 to 6 hrs (full day) - Difficulty: Advanced. The horseback ride to La Leona Post is for people who have experience with horses, from the Cerro Guido ranch to Baguales mountainrange with many opportunities to gallop. The excursion includes a trip to the mountainside of baguales mountainrange; it goes through las Chinas Valley and visits to SR. Coligor Post. Duration: 4 to 6 hrs - Difficulty: Advanced. The horseback ride to La Leona Post is for people who have experience with horses. The trip starts in Cerro Guido ranch to the Condoreras of Segunda Barranca with amazing views of the pampa. In this trip you can explore great part of the ranch that ends in Tierra Patagonia. Duration: 4 to 6 hrs - Difficulty: Only Experts. Enjoy the varied landscape of Cerro Guido with this full day excursion only for experts. The horseback ride ascends for 3 to 4 hours to Chenque Tehuelche, indigenous cemetery located in the summit of the hill. You go through the Condoreras and you’ll have a 360º view of the Sarmiento, Paine Massif, Paine Towers, Baguales and, depending on the weather, you could see the Grey Glacier from the summit.
Patagonian Life
Guided visit to Cerro Guido Ranch (All excursions to ranch are subject to change. No activities on Sundays) Duration: 3 to 4 hrs. This excursion is useful to explore Cerro Guido ranch and learn about its history and farm activities, not only about the ranch but also about the entire Magellan zone. This excursion is an opportunity to witness cattle farming activities. This is why there are no activities on Sunday. After visiting the ranch you can enjoy a lamb barbecue “cordero al palo”, typical of the  Patagonia. Below you’ll find a list of posible activities that you can do during your visit:
September -October. The shearing in the Patagonia is the process of cutting the sheep’s wool. The pre-birth shearing is the cutting of the sheep’s hair from the crotch few months prior to full shearing. You can witness this in the Cerro Guido ranch between September and October every year, but the exact dates depend on the weather. December -January. In Cerro Guido the sheating takes place usually between December and January, lasting approximately two weeks. Before the shearing itself, it is possible to see the expert riders herding with their dogs thousand of sheep. January -February. During summer, generally between January and February, you can witness “la señalada”, an activity where sheep are marked so as to distinguish them from the animals of other ranches. This is made by a cut in the sheep’s ear. Abril. April. The eye shearing consists of cutting only the hair from the sheep’s eyes and face so as to allow them to see better during winter. This is performed just as it is done in other types of shearing. It is also possible to see the herding before the eye shearing starts.
Others Duration: 4 to 5 hrs - Difficulty: Easy. The trip starts towards the South in van for about 45 minutes to the Milodón Cave. You’ll explore the cave and the prehistoric museum that explains the history of the cave and the milodon. Then, you’ll continue to Puerto Natales to see the main square, the church, the craft market and for a relaxed walk along the coastal road with panoramic views of the west. Duration: 4 to 5 hrs. Difficulty: Intermediate. You’ll leave the hotel to the Cerro Guido ranch where the hike starts. You’ll ascend to the Chenque Tehuelche, indigenous cemetery located in the summit of the Cerro Guido. There you’ll learn about the unique history of the Tehuelche culture and its significance in the area.This hike goes through the Condoreras with 360º views in the Sarmiento summit of the Paine Massif, Paine Towers, Baguales, las Chinas Valley and Grey Glacier. Duration: 2 to 2,5 hrs - Difficulty: Easy. You’ll enjoy a cultural experience in this excursion that blends the history of the Tehuelches with a pleasant hike. From the hotel you’ll go to the North by van, where the 7-kilometer hike starts. You’ll walk from the Sarmiento porter’s lodge to laguna Amarga porter’s lodge and you could see the traces of the Tehuelches by means of cave paintings, and also varied wildlife, views of the Sarmiento, Almirante Nieto and the cuernos.
