DESCRIPTION
Patagonia covers lands in Chile and Argentina. With this tour you will get in touch with the area in all its splendour and enjoy a unique experience. Transpatagonia goes through forests, gullies, rivers, and waterfalls, and you will stop to take photos, observe condors and other bird species. In some places you may even see the beautiful huemul, a native type of deer.

Departing from Tepual Airport in Puerto Montt, you will be taken to La Paloma, from where you'll board a charter flight (Grand Caravan Cessna 208) for 9 passengers. You will fly over Patagonia, having the chance to see the local fjords and islands, the Northern Patagonian Icefield, and the impressive geography of the world's end. You will land in Villa O'Higgins and get to the comfortable Robinson Crusoe Deep Patagonia Lodge, having time to rest, get used to the place and start living the "Deep Patagonia" experience.
This day you will receive a short lecture on the area and the following days' expedition, a trip that will take you to the Great Glacier (O'Higgins), in the Southern Icefields, and the colonists route to Chaltén. You will receive a backpack and a windbreaker jacket as a present, and have spare time to choose one of the following activities to do in the area: Trekking to Ciervo Lake Viewpoint, a bike tour through the local landscapes, an excursion to Mayer border crossing and lake Christie, visiting a hydroelectric plant, and other adventures like fishing in one of the nearby lakes, a rafting descent, or simply taking a bath in one of the hot tubs in the lodge.
You will depart early in the morning, sailing the Lake Los Glaciares heading for the foot of Southern Patagonian Icefield and the Great Glacier, a 3 km wide, 80 mt high ice wall. During the tour you will admire the beauty of an overwhelming ladscape shaped by the movement of the glaciers. You will see impressive mountains covered with millenial ice surrounding the lake, other glaciers, and experience the strong winds that run in this place. The weather conditions vary really quickly during the tour, from burning sun to heavy rains. All these elements make this experience make this tour an unforgettable experience. In the afternoon you will disembark in the south shore of the lake, in a colonist settlement named Candelario Macilla, from where you will head for the Argentinean border to then camp in the heart of Patagonia. The day ends with a good Magellanic lamb barbecue, and some well deserved sleep.
Trekking day. After breakfast you will start your tour heading for Lago del Desierto, in Argentina. It is a 2.5-hour trekk across thick, native forests, pristine waters, and rivers after which you will finally see the lake and mount Fitz Roy in the background. Once in the north shore of Lago del Desierto, you will board a ship to get to the south shore, having great views onf the landscapes. A transfer will be waiting for you to take you to the village of El Chaltén. It is a beautiful town of about 15 years, which is known as the trekking capital. Accommodation in the town.
This day you will enjoy the attractions and hospitality of this town. Depending on your energy and enthusiasm, you can choose amongst the activities offered, the most attractive being the ascent to Laguna de Los Tres, on the foot of Mount Fitz Roy. Other options are visiting Viedma Glacier, going through the streets, stores, and hotels of El Chaltén, visiting the information center in Huemules ranch, or going on other trekking excursions in the surroundings.
You will go back to Villa O'Higgins through the same route, sailing Lago del Desierto once again, crossing Patagonia from the lake to the border, and then arriving in Candelario Mancilla. You will enjoy great views of Lake O'Higgins, visit the local police station and boarding the vessel Quetru, which will take you back to Villa O'Higgins.
After so many adventures, you will have the chance to recall your experiences and plan some of the activities to do the following day, receiving advice and tips from the guides and other tourists.
This day you will take a bus that will take you across Carretera Austral to the city of Cochrane, enchanting you with its forests, cliffs, gullies, valleys, rivers, and waterfalls, where the rock formations will let you appreciate the vestiges of the glacial age. You will board a vessel to Fjord Mitchell, observing animals like condors or huemuls, a native deer. You will board a plane to take you back to Puerto Montt. End of services.

The program starts in: La Paloma Aerodrome in Puerto Montt at 11:00 (After arriving in El Tepual from Santiago and being taken to La Paloma in a private transfer). The program ends in: La Paloma Airport in Puerto Montt, at 18:30 (in time to take the flight to Santiago at Tepual Airport). Aircraft: Grand Caravan Cessna 208, high-wing with panoramic vision, operated by www.aerocord.cl (could be also a Cessna 4622). Luggage: The flight going from Puerto Montt to Villa O'Higgins allows a maximum luggage weight of 15 kg (33 pounds) per passenger. Tepual Airport in Puerto Montt has lockers for you to leave some bags in case you exceed the weight mentioned above.
