Airport reception and transfer to your hotel in Puerto Varas. At the appointed time you'll depart for Lahuen Ñadi Natural Monument. This park is dedicated to the preservation of Alerce trees (Fitzroya cupressoides), one of the longest-living species on earth (with a life span of 3,000 years). Here you will also find other species such as Southern Beech (Nothofagus dombeyi) and Winter’s Bark (Drimys Winteri). Among the fauna inhabiting the forest there are birds, such as the Chucao Tapaculo (Scelorchilus rubecola), the Black-throated Huet Huet (Pteroptochos tarnii) and the Slender-billed Parakeet (Enicognathus leptorhynchus); reptiles such as Darwin’s frog (Rhinoderma darwinii); a small marsupial called Monito del Monte, (Dromiciops gliroides), and the chingue (Conepatus chinga). The walk will take you through a temperate rain forest located in this ancient "living monument". From here you'll continue your walk through green farmland while appreciating the typical architecture of the German immigrants who settled here during the late nineteenth century. Return to hotel. Accommodation.

Breakfast. You'll skirt Lake Llanquihue heading to Puerto Klocker while seeing the traces left by German settlers in the mid XXth century. Once you're in the port you'll go through an ancient lava road to get to the slopes of Osorno Volcano. Before starting the trek the guide will give you all the necessary equipment (water, box lunch, etc.) and instructions for the day. A fascinating adventure starts here, going over 1200 mts. with spectacular views of Lake Todos los Santos, Calbuco Volcano and Tronador Hill. You'll walk through a path with forests of Coigues, Notros, Ulmos, and other native species of a volcanic ecosystem. Besides, you'll observe birds and reptiles which have adapted to these extreme conditions. After reaching the top of the mountain you will start descending to the beaches of Lake Todos los Santos, ending up in Petrohué. Return to hotel. Accommodation. B-BL

Breakfast. Departure for Puerto Montt at the appointed time. From there you'll take the first 36 kilometers of Carretera Austral. The route skirts the shoreline of Reloncavi Sound, providing views of fishing villages and traditional fishing methods. On reaching the village of Lenca, you'll begin your ascent to the mountains. You leave the vehicle at the park entrance and follow a footpath bordering the Chaicas River. As you gain elevation, the forest gradually changes from new growth to mature Valdivian rain forest. Some 3 kilometers in, you come to a picnic area under the shade of gigantic Southern Beeches. You continue walking through the forest, stopping to admire what appears to be nature’s cathedral. A short climb brings you to Chaicas River Falls, and another short climb to the foot of “Methuselah”, a more than 3,000-year-old Alerce Tree (Fitzroya cupressoides). Box lunch in the forest and end of a very enjoyable day. Return to the airport to catch your return flight. (B, BL)
