DESCRIPTION

Fray Jorge National Park, rainforest in a desert region, and Enchanted Valley. In the park you can distinguish three ecosystems: arid, semi-arid, and wooded. In the Enchanted Valley you'll find an outdoor museum.

Itinerary

We start our tour driving along the coast, from where you'll se the beaches of Totoralillo, Las Tacas, and Morrillos. Then we'll head towards Fray Jorge National Park, with an extension of over 10.000 ha, 400 of which correspond to hydrophile forests, typical of southern Chile. When you arrive at the information office in the park you'll receive a short presentation about the discovery of the park and the climatic phenomena that preserve it, which made UNESCO declare it a biosphere reserve.

In the park you can distinguish three ecosystems: arid, semi-arid, and wooded. The latter is located in the mountain range over 600mts, where you can find vegetal species like olivillo, canelo, helechos, male arrayán, etc. Walking through this area will allow you you to appreciate the contrast between the geography of the different zones and its ecosystems.

Lunch at a traditional restaurant

A country road will lead you to the Enchanted Valley, a place of enormous archaeological value, with its outdoor museum. The Molle people inhabited this area from around 2000 B.C. to 700 A.D. In the surroundings you'll find plenty of petroglyphs: tiara masks, anthropomorphic figures, solar symbols and pictographies in the shapes of snakes and fish. There are also cup stones, used for grinding grains and preparing the pictures.
