Welcoming at the Balmaceda airport, situated at 55Km at the east, of Coyhaique, the regional capital. Visit of the Pioneers’ museum, which will be useful to learn a part of the Patagonia Aysén’s colonization. Transfer to Coyhaique by a pavement road. Welcoming at the hotel, and then, departure to the riding school of the Patagonia, situated at 11Km of the city by pavement road. Once you have saddled your horse and received information about the ride, these noble animals from Patagonia, will guide you through beautiful forests and paths until we see the panoramic view of the entire Coyhaique valley. The tour will end in the “Campo Bonanza”, you will appreciate eating broiled lamb or veal served with wine, salads and others Chilean specialties which will make this moment unforgettable. Return to Coyhaique. Accommodation.

Breakfast. Departure at 8:30 by the southern Austral road towards Puerto Tranquilo’s place, far from 223Km. It is a small town situated in the western coast of the General Carrera Lake, which is the Chile’s bigger Lake and the second bigger in South America, with an area of 978, 12 km², and is shared with Argentina. Its waters are turquoise and are full of salmons.
In this tour, we will take advantage of beautiful forests of lenga, ciruelillo, coigüe y ñire (specialties of Chilean trees). We will also go by a huge valley semi covered by ash after the eruption of the Hudson volcano in 1991. In the Tranquilo’s Port, we will embark in a boat to navigate, following the coast of the General Carrera’s Lake, until the Nature Sanctuary named “Capillas de Mármol”. This place is really beautiful, where the swell of the lake has eroded and polished the limestone rock, creating attractive caves.
Return to Puerto Tranquilo. Lunch in the “El Puesto” hotel. In the afternoon, we will go towards the south by the Austral road to reach the hotel, situated in the shore of the General Carrera Lake. You will stay at that hotel during these few days. Dinner and accommodation. |
Breakfast and at 10:00 am, departure towards the south by the Austral road until Cochrane’s locality. From there, we go to the Tamango National Reserve, where we will follow the Cochrane river with it beautiful landscape, for approximately 40 minutes, until the lake of the same name. After having had a break for the lunch box and had a rest, we will go back through a trekking path with good indications and with low exigency for people in good health and in good physical condition. If it is your lucky day, you could see the Huemul (Hippocamelus bisulcus) at a small distance.
Then, returning to the General Carrera Lake by vehicle, you will take advantage, during a great part of the path, of the Baker river and contemplate the junction of the Baker and Nef rivers, which is a great beauty. Return at the hotel, diner and accommodation.

Breakfast and return to the Balmaceda airport by the Austral road. But before leaving, we will visit the archeological monument “Las manos de Cerro Castillo” (paints of hands in the rock) in the Castillo’s hill National Reserve’s sector, which is a rocky wall high of 25 meters, with vestiges made by the Tehuelches (its age is estimated to 6000 years). Lunch at “La Casona de la señorita Mary”. You will eat a succulent typical main dish of the Patagonia Aysén. Then we will go on until Balmaceda.
