DESCRIPTION

Cetacean sighting is a beautiful activity that bestows beautiful experiences in Patagonia. In this tour you will go from Puerto Montt to Melinka, enjoying the hospitality of Ruca Chonos Hostel, and saling through islands and islets in Guaitecas Archipielago, looking for whales, birds, penguins, and sea lions.

Itinerary


Private transport from Puerto Montt (from wherever you are) to La Paloma Aerodrome. This aerodrome is located within the urban area of the city, about 20 minutes away from the city center.
11:00, air transport to Melinka (1 hr. flight)
Melinka is a southern town located in Ascensión Island, which is part of Guaitecas archipielago, in the north area of Aysén region. The name "Melinka" comes from a Russian word that means "little darling". Currently, this is the most important village of the comuna and of the Guaitecas.
Arrival in Melinka at 12:00pm, transport to Rucha Chonos hostel. Lunch.
13:00:  transport to Melinka dock to board the ship "Petrel IV" and travel around the archipielago. Some of the spots you will visit are Manzano canal (between Gunter and Ema islands), where you'll see dolphines and native birds; Leucayec, Cuervo and Puquitín canals, and also Recalada Repollal Bajo.
Return to Melinka at 19:00
Transport to Hostal
Diner and overnight accommodation.

6:15. regular transport from hostel to Melinka dock. Set sails at 6:30. Onboard breakfast a 8:00, and stop in Caleta Granizo for 40 minutes. Departure to Queitao islets, sailing and search for cetaceans (within Corcovado gulf); 13:00 onboard lunch with a stop near Locos islet, fauna sighting (penguins and sea lions). 17:00 return to Melinka via Julia and Aguda islands. 19:00 arrival in Melinka
Regular transport to hostel, dinner and overnight accommodation.

08:00 Breakfast. 10:00 air transport to Melinka Aerodrome.
Flight back to Puerto Montt by aircraft. End of services

Aircraft Features:

  • The Cessna 402 is the best and most used aeroplane of its kind. Equipped with turbo fed engines, it reaches 300km/h and counts with aeronautic technology for all kinds of operations. Capacity: 9 passengers
  • The DHC Twin Otter, developed by Havilland Canada, is a STOL (Short Takeoff and Landing) aeroplane with a capacity of 19 passengers. It is twin-engined and equipped with Pratt and Whitney propellers, which stand out for being silent, efficient, and reliable. This aircraft was especially equipped in Canada with the Vista Liner system, which allows a greater visibility trhough its large windows, special for scenic views. Additionally, it has acoustic insulation systems and four blade propellers, which guarantee greater comfort by considerably diminishing the noise inside the cabin.
