DESCRIPTION
Go through the Region of AysĂ©n and the surroundings of the Lake General Carrera riding through wonderful landscapes, ice fields, steep mountains, and miles of virgin vegetation. You will cross lenga forests, deserts, and unexplored areas enjoying the magic of a nice horse.Â

The journey starts on the south bank of Lake General Carrera heading for Lake Cochrane. It is a route that goes through forests, icefields, and rivers with great views of the surroundings. The main objective of this program is to allow tourists to get in touch with the local culture through the close contact with the 'Gauchos' and their families. In this way, Gauchos become a crucial parts of the tourist chain, letting visitors enjoy a unique experience that not only takes them through amazing landscapes but is also a sustainable project that respects the natural, cultural, and social environment.

The tour includes the transportation from Balmaceda Airport to the base camp, meals, horses, saddles, and so on. Even though the journey takes palces in remote areas, you will always be accompanied by the guides and have the necessary supplies to be safe and eat well, with appetizers, breakfast and all meals. In some places you will be welcomed with traditional Patagonian barbecues prepared by local families so as to make the arrival after a long day riding something fun and enjoyable. The trip is also a good resting opportunity designed for anyone who is capable of riding a horse. Those who do not have experience riding will be carfeully looked after and accompanied during the whole tour.
The tour begins at 13:00 at Balmaceda (Coyhaique) airport, where a local bus will pick you up and take you to "Estancia San JosĂ©", where the joruney starts. You will cover a long stretch of Carretera Austral " We will drive along the Carretera Austral, a highway surrounded by beautiful landscapes like Cerro Castillo, Bosque Muerto (dead forest), rivers and lagoons to finally arrive at Lake General Carrera, the second largest lake in South America. Around 7 pm you will arrive at "MallĂn Grande" and then to Patagonia Riders camp. During the afternoon you will have spare time to take pictures, rest, take a shower, or simply walk in the surroundings. The day ends with a welcome aperitif, and a Chilean barbecue. After a enjoying a hot 'mate' (south American tea) and a good breakfast, the horses will be assinged for you to start riding. The journey starts in the base camp, located in a sector called "La Horqueta". You will then ride along the bank of Maitenes river towards the lake and stop after 2 hours to have a snack and rest in Pampa Cosmello. The trip continues along the San MartĂn river until getting to Puesto Bramador, where you'll spend the night.Â

After a light breakfast you will start a steep ascent through Patagonian forests until the slag heap, where you will make a toast while enjoying a spectacular view of Lake General Carrera, the Northern Patagonian Ice Fields, San ValentĂn, and mount San Lorenzo. Lunch in a gaucho post and then ride to Santa Clara Valley. It's 4 hours going through steppes, forests, rivers, and mountain desert, observing native animals like huemul. Arrival in the Valley, and lamb-based dinner.Â

After breakfast, you’ll pack up the horses and leave the campgrounds at Santa Clara, taking an old road to cross a beautiful lenga forest and reaching a slagheap in a sector called "Veranada de Leichle". You will enjoy wonderful views and have the chance to observe native species like condors and pumas. During the afternoon you will arrive in "Pampa del Zorro". After 6 hours riding you will spend the night in the Pampa, surrounded by a unique landscape.Â

Departure from the Pampa and descent into Maitenes river, the place where everything started 5 days before. You will be riding through forests, meadows, and minor streams. After five hours you will get to the base camp, having time to pack your luggage and enjoy a delicious farewell meal.

You will be picked up from the base camp and taken to Balmaceda airport, having lived one of the most incredible experiences of your life. End of services.

- Enrollment fee: 50% of the total amount. Must be paid 15 days before the trip start date.
- Wearing warm clothing (night), light clothing (day), sunscreen lotion, and having flashlights is highly recommended.
