The Aikén del Sur Park is a private park on the Carretera Austral and is part of one of the coldest forests in the world. It is located in Puerto Chacabuco, 80 kilometers from the city of Coyhaique.
This eco-tourist reserve was formed for the protection of flora and fauna in the wild. It has more than 250 hectares with trails and routes to witness the great natural diversity of the Chilean Patagonia. It has huge forests and thaws that form channels and rivers.
Many tourists come to this place to appreciate the vegetation, but some are looking for climbing routes and rocks to practice this sport.
The park Aikén del Sur has well-marked walking paths and places to rest.
Tours are usually offered to visit it and tour its natural landscapes.
Recommendations
The weather in this place is both rainy maritime (in the coastal zone and fiords) and cold near the mountains). It rains all year round, even in summer. The average annual temperature is 8°C.
It is advisable to wear clothes that are suitable for rain.
Make sure you buy everything you need in the big cities. The rest of the towns have limited stock of things, and the prices are higher than in the city.
Stores in rural areas are open all day, but they close between 13.00 and 15.00. We advise you to carry local currency (Chilean pesos), since it isn’t possible to pay with debit or credit cards in kiosks and rural stores.
Do not litter on parks or streets. Taking care of our environment is everyone's responsibility. Avoid fines by following the rules.
