There is something profoundly human about immersing yourself in hot springs in the middle of the forest. A kind of ancestral return, a silent dialogue with the earth. Pucón, that corner of La Araucanía living under the imposing shadow of the Villarrica Volcano, understands this better than anyone.

And it celebrates it with a thermal offering that ranges from classic luxury to sustainable innovation, including one of the most unique architectural experiences in Chile. Here are three hot springs you cannot miss.

Termas de Huife

Leaving Pucón along the road toward Lake Caburgua, turning after 13 kilometers and continuing another 20 along a paved route between intensely green hills: this is how the experience at Termas de Huife begins, one of the most renowned thermal centers in South America. Thirty-three kilometers that feel like a passage between worlds.

The complex sits 400 meters above sea level, beside the Liucura River, surrounded by 300 hectares of meadows and native forest where centuries-old araucaria trees coexist. From the terraces of the main building, the view embraces the landscape generously: the river flows just meters away, the forests on the opposite shore rise densely, and the murmur of the water accompanies everything.

Its four thermal pools meet different needs: the main one with temperatures between 35 and 40 degrees Celsius, a warm pool for those who prefer something milder, a semi-covered hydrotherapy pool with waterfall and pressure jets, and a kneipp therapy pool inviting a healthy contrast between thermal heat and the cold waters of the Liucura. One of the outdoor pools has a quartz pebble floor that provides delicate reflexology with every step.

The spa completes the experience with algae therapy, mud therapy, reflexology, lymphatic massages, and Reiki therapy. For those wishing to extend their stay, the complex offers rooms and cabins with private hot tubs overlooking the natural surroundings. The restaurant, privilegedly located facing the pools, serves national and international cuisine with fresh products, including vegetarian and diet-friendly options.

Termas Geométricas

Some places are, above all else, an idea. Termas Geométricas is exactly that: the vision of architect Germán del Sol, who wondered what would happen if, instead of taming nature, geometry embraced it. The result is one of the most photographed and genuinely beautiful spaces in southern Chile.

Located about 83 kilometers from Pucón, within Villarrica National Park —17 kilometers from Coñaripe along a well-maintained gravel road— the hot springs take advantage of more than 60 thermal water sources naturally emerging at 80°C in a ravine that was once nearly inaccessible. Del Sol transformed it into a dreamlike corridor.

The water is pure thermal water, unfiltered, and constantly renewed. Each pool has its own changing room overlooking the forest, lockers with locks, and terraces for resting. At the end of the route, a coigüe wood quincho assembled without nails offers the warmth of an open fire, homemade kuchen, grilled cheese sandwiches, and the seduction of silence.

The experience changes radically with the seasons: in summer, the freshness of the native forest enhances the pleasure of the hot water; in winter, immersing yourself in the pools while snow melts over the walkways is an experience that those who have lived it describe as transformative. Open every day of the year from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Termas Geométricas requires prior reservation since capacity is limited —and that limitation, far from being an inconvenience, is part of its magic.

Parque Termal Botánico

If Huife represents tradition and Geométricas architecture, Parque Termal Botánico embodies something different: the future of thermal tourism. Opened in February 2025, this space built on the former Termas Liucura is, at the same time, the first botanical garden in La Araucanía and the first ecological thermal complex of its kind in the world.

Its location is an unexpected advantage: it is just 12 to 15 kilometers from downtown Pucón, about 20 minutes by car along the road to Caburgua, in the Liucura sector. The park even offers its own transportation service from the Gran Hotel Enjoy Pucón, with daily departures at staggered times. It is, without a doubt, the most accessible thermal option in the area.

The thermal heart of the park consists of its 10 pools with waters certified by the Ministry of Health: seven outdoors, two built into living rock caverns, and one large indoor pool inspired by the Crystal Palace. Temperatures vary to suit every visitor, and the experience is fully immersive: steam blends with the smell of damp earth while tree canopies frame every dip.

What sets Parque Termal Botánico apart from any other thermal complex in the country is its radical commitment to sustainability. The BioAntu wetland purification system treats all the park’s waters using phytoremediation plants and microorganisms, returning clean water to the earth in a closed cycle without impact on the river. The construction materials are sustainable, and the generation of renewable energy is renewable.

The wellness proposal goes far beyond the pools: the park offers Esalen-inspired massages, sound therapy sessions, watsu, and outdoor yoga, in addition to an exclusive Wellness Club space with private pools, dry sauna, steam bath, and cold plunge.
