Perhaps, on some silent night in the Cajón del Maipo or Elqui Valley, a fleeting light will cross the sky and make you wonder if you just saw a UFO.
There are nights when the sky seems to hold more secrets than it reveals. In the vast desert, among mountains or over valleys illuminated by millions of stars, some claim to have seen lights that defy logic. Chile, with its extreme geography and clear sky, has become one of the countries with the highest number of UFO sightings in the world. Scientists, curious people, and believers arrive every year drawn by that aura of mystery that surrounds certain places where, they say, the universe communicates with us.
Today we take you on a journey through four “hot spots” to see UFOs in Chile, where nature and the supernatural seem to intertwine.
1. Cajón del Maipo
Just an hour from Santiago, Cajón del Maipo is not only one of the most visited natural destinations in the Metropolitan Region, but also one of the most enigmatic energy centers in the country. Local stories speak of lights that cross the skies and vanish among the peaks of the mountains, of flying objects that change shape, and of mountaineers who claim to have felt strange presences in the silence of the heights.
The atmosphere of Cajón, with its pure air, clear sky, and natural magnetism, makes it an ideal setting for those seeking a UFO experience. Some claim that the mountains act as natural antennas that channel energy from the cosmos. In places like Embalse El Yeso, there are those who swear they have seen suspended lights for minutes over the valley.
2. Elqui Valley
Elqui Valley, in the Coquimbo Region, is synonymous with energy, spirituality, and stars. Its sky is one of the cleanest on the planet, so much so that the most important astronomical observatories in the southern hemisphere are located there. But alongside the scientific telescopes, there are also those who gaze with another purpose: to look for signs of extraterrestrial life.
Reports of sightings are repeated in places like Paihuano, Montegrande, or Pisco Elqui, where locals and tourists claim to have seen lights moving in zigzag or disappearing suddenly among the mountains. The valley’s energy is such that night tours are offered to observe the sky, meditation sessions under the stars, and UFO talks that mix science and mystery. Many believe that the valley is an energy vortex or even a contact point between dimensions.
3. Cerro Las Mollacas: the “Chilean Roswell”
Near Ovalle, Cerro Las Mollacas has gone down in history for one of the most remembered cases of national ufology: the so-called “Chilean Roswell”. In 1998, witnesses claimed to have seen a craft fall on the hill, accompanied by a bright flash of light. The event mobilized the press, researchers, and even authorities who tried to reach the site, but access was quickly restricted for reasons never fully clarified.
Since then, Las Mollacas has become a symbol of Chilean UFO mystery. Years later, civil expeditions continued to find testimonies, photographs, and accounts that feed the legend. Some maintain that even today, strange lights can be seen moving at low altitude.
4. San Clemente
In the heart of the Altos de Lircay National Reserve, in the commune of San Clemente, Maule Region, lies El Enladrillado, a rock formation that seems the work of human hands or, as some claim, of beings from another world. There are more than 200 stone blocks perfectly fitted, forming a flat surface more than 2,200 meters above sea level. No one knows how or why it was formed, and that mystery has turned the site into an epicenter of UFO tourism in Chile.
Legends say that El Enladrillado was a landing strip for extraterrestrial crafts, an ancient altar, or even an interdimensional portal. Each year, groups of curious people, mystics, and researchers come to observe lights in the sky, practice meditation, or simply immerse themselves in the energy of the place.
