Chile triumphs again at the Tourism Oscars with five awards at the 2025 World Travel Awards

In a competition that annually recognizes the most outstanding destinations on the planet, Chile shone brightly by being awarded Best Adventure Tourism Destination, Best Romantic Destination —thanks to the incomparable magic of the Atacama Desert—, Best Green Destination, Best Nature Destination, and Best Cruise Destination.

These awards confirm a history of over a decade in which the country has captivated travelers from around the world, combining adrenaline, unique landscapes, and experiences that leave a mark.

For the first time: Best Nature Destination and Best Cruise Destination

Two of these titles were especially significant: Best Nature Destination and Best Cruise Destination, categories in which Chile won for the first time. The former highlights biodiversity and commitment to sustainable tourism, while the latter positions the country as a gateway for those dreaming of exploring South America by sea, discovering its vast coastline.

With this regional success, Chile now prepares to compete in the global grand final, which will take place on December 6 in Bahrain, where the world’s best will gather.

Chile highlighted the eighth recognition for Atacama Desert

The Undersecretary of Tourism, Verónica Pardo, highlighted (via BioBio Chile) that these awards “are a testament to the enormous value and diversity of experiences that Chile offers as a tourist destination.” She also emphasized that the Atacama Desert “has been chosen eight times as Best Romantic Destination, an award that confirms its unique atmosphere, capable of enchanting any traveler under the clearest skies on the planet.”

Meanwhile, the national director of Sernatur, Cristóbal Benítez, noted that the awards demonstrate “the great potential of Chile to continue diversifying its offerings and attract segments that value nature and the experience of navigating our territory.” According to Benítez, this distinction opens new opportunities to showcase to the world a country that combines extreme landscapes with a growing commitment to sustainability and tourism innovation.

Huilo Huilo, a responsible destination for tourism

Beyond the five main trophies, Chile celebrated an award that goes a step further in its future vision: the 2025 South America Responsible Tourism Award, granted to the Huilo Huilo Biological Reserve. This sanctuary of Patagonian rainforest, located in the Los Ríos Region, is a model of environmental conservation and community development. In this southern corner, visitors can explore ancient forests, follow trails that cross crystal-clear rivers, observe endemic species such as the huemul, and stay in accommodations that blend with the landscape, all under a project that protects biodiversity and provides opportunities to local communities.
