The Santa Rita vineyard is considered one of the oldest and most traditional vineyards in Chile. It is located only 40 kilometers from Santiago. You can do a wine tour to tour its vineyards, main house and gardens.
The Santa Rita Vineyard is located on the outskirts of Santiago, in an area called Altos de Jahuel in the Maipo Valley.
It was founded in 1880 by Domingo Fernández Concha who introduced French strains and obtained results much superior to those obtained in Chile at that time. Since then, the vineyard began to take on cultural and traditional importance.
In 1980, the Claro group and the Owens Illinois company acquired ownership of the vineyard and introduced many technological advances and different techniques of winemaking that at that time were totally unknown in Chile.
At the beginning of the '90 began a period of apogee and changes. Great investments were made in the oenological area, new work equipment was purchased, stainless steel vats, oak barrels. More than 1000 hectares were planted in different valleys: Maipo, Rapel, Lontué, Casablanca and Apalta. In this period the Alto Jahuel estate was also acquired, the house that was the original one of the fund and the park that counted on 39 hectares, thus forming the whole of the Hacienda Santa Rita.
Since the 1990s, Santa Rita Vineyard continues to strengthen and export its exquisite wines to different parts of the world (its wines are sold in more than 75 different countries), focusing on Premium and Super Fine wines.
You can also visit Santa Rita Vineyard on a day tour from Santiago, where you can tour its vineyards, the main house (containing traditional Chilean history), its church and gardens that form a touching landscape.
