An unforgettable journey along the Southern Carretera Austral, exploring lakes, glaciers, mountains, and unique towns such as Puerto Tranquilo, Caleta Tortel, and Chile Chico.
A complete Patagonian experience combining pristine nature, navigation, local culture, and iconic landscapes of the Aysén Region.
Day 1: Arrival day
We will be waiting for you at Balmaceda Airport to begin the journey, with a transfer southbound toward Puerto Tranquilo. The route follows the stunning Southern Carretera Austral, covering 182 km (approximately 4 hours) through majestic landscapes of high mountains, lakes, and lagoons. Highlights include the impressive Cerro Castillo and the charming village of the same name. Later, traveling on gravel roads, we continue to Puerto Tranquilo, where each stretch offers postcard-perfect views of the Aysén Region, ideal for photography.
Day 2: Puerto Tranquilo – Exploradores River Valley
We begin with a journey along the Exploradores Valley Route, which connects the Carretera Austral with Exploradores Bay, departing from Puerto Tranquilo. The charm of this road lies in the strength and diversity of its landscapes, where within just a few kilometers evergreen and deciduous Patagonian forests blend with lakes and lagoons, rivers, glaciers, towering mountains, and peaceful valleys. In this privileged natural setting, on the shores of Lake Bayo, we will enjoy a tasting of local flavors from the Aysén Region.
Day 3: Puerto Tranquilo – Marble Chapels – Cochrane
We will navigate Lake General Carrera to discover the Marble Chapels, Cathedral, and Caves Nature Sanctuary, a truly unique natural wonder of Patagonia. Afterwards, we will travel along the route bordering the impressive Baker River and Patagonia National Park, visiting its source in Puerto Bertrand. We will then continue along the iconic Carretera Austral to Cochrane, where you will enjoy dinner at a local restaurant according to the menu of the day.
Day 4: Cochrane – Caleta Tortel – Cochrane
Departure to Caleta Tortel along a 128 km gravel road, with an approximate travel time of 3 hours. This journey is a unique experience that blends the guide’s stories with the geography and lush vegetation of southern Chile. Caleta Tortel is a one-of-a-kind village, where there are no streets or sidewalks; instead, a network of wooden walkways and staircases made of Guaitecas cypress connects every corner, giving the town its distinctive charm.
Day 5: COCHRANE - CHILE CHICO
Departure from Cochrane towards Chile Chico. Along the way, we will visit Patagonia National Park, walking its trails through vast valleys shaped by the Chacabuco River—an ancient natural corridor once used by nomadic peoples and now home to a rich diversity of wildlife. A visit to the park’s museum is a must to better understand the human relationship with this land and its impact over time. We then continue along the shores of Lake General Carrera, stopping in Puerto Guadal, known as the “Pearl of the Lake.” Upon arrival in Chile Chico, we will explore its streets and the Winds Viewpoint.
Day 6: Chile Chico – Lake General Carrera Ferry Crossing – Coyhaique
