In the Estrecho de Magallanes Park is located one of the few fortifications still standing in Chile and, without a doubt, one of the most important in the southern area. You will feel like in the 19th century!
- Departure: 09:30
- Duration: 4 hours
- Pickup / Dropoff: Hotel in Punta Arenas
What you will visit:
- 1 Punta Arenas
We will pick you up at your accommodation in Punta Arenas and travel along the Strait of Magellan. On the route we will observe a great diversity of marine birds, such as gulls, caiquenes, bandurrias and cormorants.
After an hour of travel we will stop at the landmark that shows the geographical center of Chile and then continue to Fort Bulnes, located in the Estrecho de Magallanes Park, just one kilometer from that sector. It is the first Chilean enclave in the austral zone, founded in 1843 on the rocky hill of Santa Ana. We will have time to see the reconstruction of the original fort, which preserves the spirit of the first inhabitants of the region. In addition, we will visit the church, the jail, the chaplain's room, the water wells, the powder keg, the mail and the stables that belonged to the first Chilean garrison in 1843. We will also see birds such as the carancho, the loica and the thrush.
At the end of the visit we will return to Punta Arenas.
