Ushuaia, Argentina, is one of the most important tourist cities in the southern part of the continent located on the Beagle Channel.
Ushuaia is an Argentinean city, capital of Tierra del Fuego, Antátida and South Atlantic Islands. It was founded on October 12, 1884 by Augusto Lasserre and is located on the shores of the Beagle Channel, surrounded by the Martial mountain range in the Bay of Ushuaia.
In the early twentieth century, the famous prison was built in the vicinity of the Village, which was in service between 1902 and 1947. Later on, it passed into the hands of Argentinean Navy and after a period of neglect, it became the Maritime Museum and the Prison of Ushuaia.
Besides being an administrative center , it is an industrial, port and tourist knot. Today it is known as "the southernmost city in the world".
