Forest, beach or desert? Then we recommend the best destinations in Chile to make the most of the long holiday of Fiestas Patrias this September 18.

Here are the top 5 of GoChile recommendations for these holidays:

  • Playa La Virgen

If you're looking to lie down on the sand and enjoy the sun, then the place is the Playa La Virgen. Considered one of the most beautiful in Chile, this incredible beach is located 70 kilometers from Copiapó, 55 minutes far from Bahía Inglesa and 2 hours far from the Llanos de Challe National Park, the ideal place to appreciate the phenomenon of the Flowery Desert, unique in the world.

  • Puerto Varas

For nature lovers, the recommendation is the lovely town of Puerto Varas. Of German tradition, it is the best place to try a homemade kuchen (pie) after a walk along the coast of Lake Llanquihue. You can rent a bicycle and pedal up to the Petrohué falls; do a trekking in the Alerce Andino National Park or kayak in one of the lakes around the town.

  • San Pedro de Atacama

San Pedro is always an excellent option, and in five days you have enough time to have a good taste of this experience. You can ride a bike through the Valley of the Moon, glide through the dunes of the Valley of Death, get to know the Tatio Geysers, float in the Cejar lagoon and enjoy the Altiplanic Miscanti and Miñiques lagoons. Whatever you do, the adventure is assured.

  • Torres del Paine

If you take two more days at work, you will have 9 days of holidays, just enough time to enjoy the Eighth Wonder of the World. Go trekking on the W circuit, be enchanted by its turquoise waters, its glaciers and its mythical rock formations. Sail through Gray Lake and observe foxes, huemules, ñandúes and - if you're lucky- pumas. It is an excellent date to go because the weather is not as cold as August but it is not as crowded as it will be in summer season.

  • Chiloé

In September, rainfall begins to decrease in the Chiloé archipelago, and it is the only date in which it is possible to observe Chilean flamingos in the Putemú Wetland. Visit the 16 world heritage churches, discover the wild Tantauco Park, try the traditional chilote gastronomy and listen to the legends about mermaids and ghost ships. You will not regret.
