Coyhaique is considered the most important city of the Carretera Austral. From here you can make trips to know the General Carrera Lake and the chapels of marble, the Queulat Park located on the southern North highway.
Coyhaique is located on the foot of hill Macay and was built around its 5 sided square, created to recall the shape of Carabinero's shield, and... to disorientate people. The city is the starting point of all tours in the region of Aysén. In its surroundings you will find attractions like Cerro El Fraile Ski Center, Lake Elizalde and Cerro Castillo National reserve. 120 km. away from the city there is Puerto Aysén, set on the shores of Aysén river, near Río Simpson National Reserve. This is the departure place of most expeditions to San Rafael Lagoon.
Gastronomy

Stores in rural areas are open all day, but they close between 13.00 and 15.00. We advise you to carry local currency (Chilean pesos), since it isn’t possible to pay with debit or credit cards in kiosks and rural stores.
