Santiago de Chile is a great place to buy and go window shopping. The opening hours for the majority of our stores are from 10:00 to 21:00, and there are several options including big malls and department stores, neighborhoods with exclusive brands, and streets which are known for its low prices.
The easiest alternative is going to one of the shopping malls in the city, where you can find a huge number of shops and services. The most famous ones are Parque Arauco and Alto Las Condes, both of them located in Kennedy Ave. In them you can visit the three main Chilean department stores: Almacenes París, Ripley, and Falabella, with good prices and a variety of goods. For instance, París has products of the teen brand Topshop, and Falabella has brands like Nine West or Aldo, for those of you who want to buy shoes. In those malls there is also the chain store Casa Ideas, which has attractive home products at good prices.
Another interesting option is Mall Sport, which specializes in sport products. This may be a good place to visit before going trekking or skiing.
Patronato is a very popular street in the district of Recoleta. It has fabric factories and clothing stores at very low prices, although you need to be patient and willing to walk. Also, the area connecting the neighborhoods Lastarria and Bellas Artes has a large amount of young designer stores, something similar to what the Drugstore Gallery offers in Providencia.
The chicest area in Santiago is located in Alonso de Córdoba and Nueva Costanera, in the district of Vitacura. It has design stores, decoration, and international designers’ boutiques, with brands like Luis Vuitton, Longchamp, BCBG, Hermes, and Salvatore Ferragmo, amongst others. Another great place to visit design shops and antiques is the Barrio Italia, which also has cool bars and restaurants.
Finally, those who want to go to the outlet stores directly and buy good brands at low prices should visit the district of Quilicura. In San Ignacio street you can find a large number of these stores, the main ones being Buenaventura and Easton Center. In them you will find brands like The North Face, Nike, Lacoste, Ralph Lauren, and more.
Chilean Products
If you are interested in buying traditional Chilean products and handicrafts, there are several places where you can go. The most famous ones are the Pueblito los Dominicos in Las Condes, and the fair in Cerro Santa Lucía, in Santiago city center. Both of them have a varied offer, with wooden products, wool clothes coming from Chiloé, wicker furniture from Chimbarongo, Mapuche fabrics, and earthenware pots made in Pomaire, amongst many other options. Also, the handicraft market in Pío Nono (Bellavista) neighborhood is a good place to buy interesting products.
The Artesanías de Chile Foundation has several stores and gathers craftsmen from all over the country, offering a wide range of products. They also have a display in Centro Cultural Palacio de La Moneda.
A great place to buy Chilean arts, especially music, movies, and traditional objects of the national culture is La Tienda Nacional, located in Barrio Bellas Artes. In it you will find a wide variety of products, and the staff is young, attentive, and very knowledgeable.
