Chile is not only one of the favorite for outdoor lovers, but it's also the perfect place to spot and photograph beautiful and fascinating animals in its natural habitat. Do you want to see them up close?

One of the best characteristics of Chile is that it not only has incredible landscapes but its also the home of a wide range of animals, lots of them which you can only find here. These are some of the wildlife lovers favs.

1.Puma (Puma concolor)

Distribution: From Arica to Magallanes. The puma can adapt to any environment from the level of the sea to 5.000 meters high, so it can be found in the mountains, as well as in thick woods.

Where to find it: Torres del Paine National Park.

2. Guiña Cat (Felis Guigna)

Distribution: From Coquimbo to Aysén including Chiloé and Guaitecas.  From the level of the sea to the limit of the vegetation. There are two subspecies, La Guiña (Leopardus Guigna Guigna) and Tigrillo (Leopardo Guigna Tigrillo).

Where to find it: Mixed template sclerophyll forests, especially if the woods are thick, like the Valdivian temperate rainforest.

3. Pudú (Pudu pudu)

Distribution: The smallest deer in America lives only in Chile and Argentina. In our country, the pudu can be found in the Andes Mountain Range as well as the Costa mountain range, from the foothills to 1.700 meters above the sea. This deer lives from the Maule region to Aysén, as well as Mocha island.

Where to find it: in the area of Pascua river, located in Aysén,  70 Km south of Cochrane. You can also find it in the Isla Grande in Chiloé.

4.  Darwin Fox or  Chiloé Fox (Lycalopex fulvipes)

Distribution: endemic from Chile, the Darwin Fox can be found in the woods of Isla Grande in Chiloé and in the coastal mountain range area in  Nahuelbuta National park.

Where to find it: especially in Chiloé forests  (42ºS, 74ºW)  and also in Nahuelbuta National Park (37º45`S, 73º00`W).

5. Blue Whale (Balaenoptera musculus)

Distribution: From  Iquique to Antártica, including Juan Fernández archipelago and Easter Island.

Where to find it: In the Corcovado Gulf and the northeast of Chiloé Island, specifically in Caleta Puñihuil, 25 km from Ancud. They also can be seen navigating from  Parque Tantauco to the area of Caleta Zorra.

6. Chilean Flamingo (Phoenicopterus chilensis)

Distribution: From Arica and Parinacota region to Tierra del Fuego.

Where to find it:  Chaxa Lagoon located in the Atacama Salt Flat, 70 km from San Pedro de Atacama town. You can also spot this beautiful bird in Surire Salt Flat,  Arica and Parinacota region.

7. King Penguin (Aptenodytes patagonicus)

Distribution: extreme austral seas.

Where to find it: there is a little community of King Penguins in the Bahía Inútil area, located 114 kilometers from the Ferry Punta Arenas-Porvenir, in Tierra del Fuego.

8. Cóndor (Vultur gryphus)

Distribution: all Chilean territory.

Where to find it: You can spot it if you do a hike to the Andes, but you can also find it in farms located in Magallanes Region and Torres del Paine National Park.
