Tour Ahu Akivi - Easter Island
- Departure: 15:00
- Duration: 4 hours
- Pickup / Dropoff: Hotel in Isla de Pascua
Make the most of your days in Easter Island and do not miss an unforgettable afternoon getting to know the most beautiful ceremonial centers of Rapa Nui culture.
We'll pick you up at your hotel at 15:00pm to head to the famous Akivi ahu, the most important ceremonial center on the island also known as a celestial observatory. Composed of seven moais, it is one of the few ceremonial centers that are located in the interior of the island and not on the coast. Of homogeneous design, the seven statues measure 4 meters high and have a particularity that can only be seen in this place on the island: they face exactly the sunset during the spring equinox and turn their backs at dawn during the autumn equinox. It is a place of enormous cultural interest and definitely a must of the island.
Then we will continue our journey towards Uri to Urenga, the four-handed moai restored by William Mulloy in 1976. Located on a platform 13 meters long by four meters wide, the moai looks towards where the sun rises during the winter solstice (June 21) and its platform is aligned with two neighboring hills, Maunga Mataengo and Maunga Traina, plus two smaller nearby ahu. For this reason, it is believed that it was an important solar observatory in the Rapa Nui calendar.
Our last destination will be the quarry of Puna Pau, an important source of red volcanic rock that was used to sculpt the headdresses of the moai. It is deduced that this material was used because it was easy to carve and because of its distinctive reddish color.
Finally we will climb to the top of the quarry, from where we will see the small crater of Puna Pau and the splendid views of Hanga Roa and the west coast of the island.
After four hours of travel, we will drop you off at your hotel.

Tulor is particularly interesting due to its unique design and architecture. It is composed of circular adobe and mud structures, many of which are connected by narrow passageways. These structures are arranged concentrically, creating a circular pattern that is distinctive to the village. Archaeologists believe that this layout may have had practical and cultural purposes.
