This recognition positions O'Higgins as a destination to be considered for travelers seeking authentic experiences in 2024.

The O'Higgins Region has been recognized as one of the standout tourist destinations for the year 2024, according to the annual list of '52 Places to Visit' compiled by the prestigious New York Times. This ranking, curated by specialized journalists, spans various categories such as adventure, architecture, arts, events, family, food and drink, history, and nature, among others.

"This often-overlooked region south of Santiago has faced changing weather, forest fires threatening centuries-old vineyards, frequent earthquakes, and underrated traditions. In response, a group of local chefs, winemakers, and artisanal producers have come together to preserve their rural identity. In late 2023, their initiative, known as the 'Ruta de los Abastos' (Route of the Provisions), began offering rural culinary experiences to connect visitors with beekeepers, oyster farmers, and other local producers", explains the New York Times in the publication.

The article also highlights the presence of markets and restaurants showcasing regional ingredients, such as El Abasto in the city of Rancagua and establishments based in vineyards, like Food and Wine Studio and the luxurious Viña Vik. Local products such as lamb raised in the area, salt from the coast in Cáhuil, and the distinctive low-alcohol wine called chacolí are featured in the region's culinary offerings, with the Valley of Colchagua taking center stage.

New York Times also commended accommodations and the culinary scene in Punta de Lobos, Pichilemu, the spectacular beach recognized as the Surf Capital of Chile: "Along the coast around Pichilemu and Punta de Lobos, amid minimalist beach accommodations like Hotel Alaia, local seafood dominates with natural wine lists, as found in Maral".

In addition, the list includes the Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia, the world's largest salt flat. Through the link, you can fulfill your dream of setting foot on this fantastic destination.
