Located one hour away from Santiago, in the Cajón del Maipo, this protected area encompasses the Rio Morales canyon and the adjoining hills, part of the Andes mountain range. Due to its climate conditions the park is closed between May and September. The best time to visit it is from December to March.

Amongst the hills surrounding the canyon, El Morado is the highest one, reaching 5,060 mts msl (16,596 ft). The local fauna stands out for its bird species, the most notable being the large hummingbird, the cometocino and the austral thrush. The vegetal species include Andean hard-leaf thickets, mountain olives, white herbs and green foxtail plants.

Some of the more spectacular places in the park are the El Morado lagoon and the San Francisco glacier. A trail leads to both of these areas, taking approximately 2 hours to hike.
