The Cañi Sanctuary is a private reserve of 500 hectares, dedicated mainly to the conservation of the ancestral forests of Araucaria araucana, a species which is one of the longest lived on our planet. Established as one of the first Private Protected Areas of Chile, today it is managed by two inhabitants of the locality of Pichares, a community next to the reserve, transforming it into a world example of Local Development through Conservation.
The Cañi is one of the oldest sanctuaries of the Araucaria Conifer Giant in the entire planet earth. This forty km belt is almost all that remains of this magical type of forest in the mountains and hills of our South zone.
The name of this sanctuary was taken by the Cañi Hill which in Mapudungun means "The vision that transforms". A trekking in this area around the Araucarias of 1000 years is a call to inner peace and inspiration and reflection. Open your mind and touch the deepest of your soul.
During the winter season, we use equipment for the snow and visit the lagoons that literally freeze, being able to cross the lake in some occasions..
Our tour begins at 444 meters above sea level, reaching the highest point at 1546 meters and the distance to travel is 7.5 km.
