Toconao is a town that dates back more than 12 thousand years and is located a few kilometers from San Pedro de Atacama

Toconao is an oasis that, thanks to the purity of water, allows the cultivation of all kinds of fruits, some native species and others brought by the Spanish. In front of the town square is located the church and bell tower of San Lucas, originally from the XVIII century. Although they were rebuilt after earthquakes and fires, they kept its charm which is why they were both declared National Monument. They are currently maintained by the congregation of nuns from the order Jesus Verbo y Víctima. The activity of the town is based on the size of various volcanic stone sculptures and miniatures thereof, that are extracted from own quarry Indian Community .
