Day 1: Arrival to Huilo Huilo Biological Reserve

Transfer: Airport in Temuco Hotel in Huilo-Huilo Biological Reserve

The trip begins when the group is picked-up by our team at Temuco Airport, and is then directed to the town of Neltume, commune of Panguipulli, located 3 kilometers away from the Huilo Huilo Biological Reserve hotels.

Arrival to the Reserve, dinner and accommodation at Reino Fungi Lodge.

Day 2: Visit a mapuches communities

After breakfast we start the tour at approximately 9:30 am.

The history of the Biological Reserve Huilo Huilo is marked by several factors that determined the culture and customs of the area.

Mapuche culture and its timber past marked its people and today seek to redeem itself through conservation projects and the development of tourism, with all the social changes that this involves.

We start the activities of the day by visiting the workshops of the Foundation. The Huilo Huilo Biological Reserve has the mission of integrating the communities and functions as an important agent of job reconversion, both as a source of direct and indirect work. Thus, as craftsmen‘s workshops for the territory product creation, such as magical beings, embroidery and carved in wood. This visit is a tour to know the experience and share with these artisans.

After lunch around 13:30 we will visit the Nurseries of the Foundation. In addition to preserving, within the objectives of the Huilo Huilo Biological Reserve is to help restore the sectors affected by the timber industry, livestock and others. In order to revalue the native species, native fruits of Chile are introduced in the different gastronomic preparations that are made in Huilo Huilo. The nursery of the Foundation plays a central role in this process, presenting sectors of production of native species, vegetables for human consumption, ornamental plants that can also serve for the production of honey, as well as a composting sector, among others.

We returned to the hotel.

Day 3: Excursion and cultural activity

After breakfast, we leave the hotel at approximately 9:30 am. Then we make short walks to our two destinations in the morning. If it rains, we will do it by car.

First, we go to the Path of the Spirits, which combines wooden walkways and native forest floor. Legend has it that in that zone there was an old Mapuche cemetery, which gives rise to a series of testimonies of villagers, who affirm that they have witnessed ancient spirits prowling the forest.

During the walk we will witness giant wooden totems, anthropomorphic and zoomorphic representations of the different Mapuche communities. Our expert will accompany us by telling relevant historical facts with Mapuche myths and legends of the area.

Then we will visit the Museum of the Volcanoes, an archaeological collection of indigenous peoples from Chile where the collection of utensils of the Mapuche culture stands out, a story will take us to know a little more about this rich culture of the south of the world.

We return to the hotel for lunch.

During the afternoon we will carry out the last activity of the program. The Huilo Huilo Foundation participates and supports different projects and events of the community during the year, these activities have different attractions according to seasons. According to the date of our visit, we can visit events such as Mapuche Workshop of Lake Neltume, de la Miel Tour, de la Leche Tour, Cultural festivals like El Cantar del Chucao (singing) or the del Bosque Festival.

Day 4: Departure day

Transfer: Hotel in Huilo-Huilo Biological Reserve Airport in Temuco

At approximately 10:00 am, we will leave Huilo Huilo Biological Reserve in the direction of the airport.
