Day 1: Torres del Paine National Park - Puerto Natales - Base Torres viewpoint

Trekking to Base Torres, in Torres del Paine National Park

  • Departure: 07:00
  • Duration: 11 hours
  • Includes: Boxlunch, Dinner
  • Pickup / Dropoff: Hotel in Puerto Natales

Hiking to reach Base Torres del Paine, a place that will allow you to witness the 3 massifs: Central, Monzino and Dagostini, Pik and Nido de Cóndores hills. This is one of the best landscapes in the Torres del Paine National Park.

We will leave at approximately 7:00 AM from your hotel in Puerto Natales, to go to the Las Torres sector, where Estancia Cerro Paine is located. There we will start our trekking along a path in the direction of the valley, passing by a suspension bridge over the Ascencio River. About 150 meters further on we will take a fork that will take us to Base Las Torres.

We will continue along a zig zag path of marked slope for one hour. We will pass by a slope and after 45 minutes we will arrive at the Chileno campsite, on the bank opposite the river, in the shade of a forest with moderate slope. After just over an hour from the campsite we will reach the foot of the moraine to access the viewpoint through a path of increased slope.

Half an hour later we will reach the eastern end of the lagoon, with a beautiful view of the three towers and Peineta and Nido de Cóndores hills. We will take advantage of the place to enjoy our box lunch, to then return to the starting point. There we will board the vehicle that will take us back to Puerto Natales.

Walk along the peaceful shore of Lake Nordenskjöld, at the foot of the stunning Mount Almirante Nieto and its hanging glaciers. The silent atmosphere of the towering peaks over the turquoise lake will encourage you to slow down, take in the magnitude, and capture the view forever with a photograph.

The lake is surrounded by geographical contrasts and is home to many birds, so keep an eye out for condors flying in this area. You will continue along the Arriero River, which offers great opportunities to take a long, pleasant break, fill your water bottle, and enjoy the present moment.

Once at the highest viewpoint, you will be able to see the lake in its entirety and the French Glacier on Cerro Paine Grande.

Day 4: Trekking to Grey Viewpoint - Navigation on Lake Pehoé - Return to Puerto Natales

This amazing trek takes you through various landscapes, from native forests to lake shores. As you enjoy the incredible views, you will marvel at the glaciers cascading down the mountain peaks.

Upon leaving the forest, you will reach the first viewpoint overlooking Grey Lake and start seeing more and more pieces of the glacier floating by. After your adventure, you will take a navigation trip on Lake Pehoé and then a bus back to Puerto Natales.

Once in Puerto Natales, you should make your way to Navimag office to check in between 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. to board the Navimag Ferry Esperanza. If you need to check in at the Navimag office at the port, you will be informed by email.

If you experience a delay that prevents you from arriving at Hotel Costa Australis by 9:00 p.m., you may go directly to the Navimag office located at Avenida Pedro Montt 308, across from the port, where a special entry will be arranged with authorized Navimag and port staff.

Accommodation is on board the Navimag ship.

Day 5: Angostura White - Canal Santa María

Upon departure, we will enter the Seno Unión and sail until we reach the narrowest point of the route, Angostura White, which is only 80 meters wide. Then, we will continue our navigation through Canal Santa María.

Day 6: Puerto Edén - Cotopaxi

We will navigate through the Patagonian Channels, including Morla Vicuña, Paso Escobar Doxrud, Paso Sóbenes (the southernmost point of the route), Canal Unión, Estrecho Collingwood, Paso Farquar, Canal Sarmiento, Angostura Guía, Inocentes, Concepción, Canales Wide, Paso del Abismo, and Paso del Indio. We will then arrive at the town of Puerto Edén, which is home to the last population of Kaweskar indigenous people in Chile. This town is located on Wellington Island, one of the largest in the country, and is part of the Bernardo O’Higgins National Park.

After a short stay in Puerto Edén (for the boarding and disembarking of residents only), we will resume our route north, which will take us to Angostura Inglesa, a narrow passage that allows navigation by only one vessel at a time. We will continue through Canal Messier, where we will see the cargo ship “Capitán Leonidas,” stranded since the 1970s on a semi-submerged islet called “Bajo Cotopaxi.” The ship is now used as a navigation beacon and reference point for mariners.

Day 7: Gulf of Penas - Ocean Area - Moraleda Channel

In the morning, we will begin ocean navigation in the Gulf of Penas sector, a journey that lasts approximately 12 hours. During this stage, it is possible to spot humpback, Minke, and blue whales, depending on the time of year and the weather.

At dawn, the Captain will assess the meteorological information received, along with data on tide currents in the channels and astronomical events such as the Moon and the Sun. Based on this information, the most suitable route for continuing the journey will be decided, with the following options for exiting the ocean area:

  • Pulluche Channel
  • Ninualac Channel
  • Guafo Mouth

Additionally, there is the possibility of accessing other channels, depending on visibility, traffic, and crossing with other ships.

One option is to navigate through the Pulluche Channel, the most lush in vegetation, with lenga and cypress forests. If luck is on our side, we might see dolphins, sea lions, and wild birds. We will then proceed through the Chacabuco Channel and subsequently enter the Errázuriz Channel. Finally, we will navigate through the Moraleda Channel, a transit route of notable navigators and canoers from the Chonos and Chiloé archipelagos.

If we opt for the Ninualac Channel, we will arrive near Tuap Island and finally reach the Moraleda Channel.

Lastly, if we choose to continue to the open sea via the Guafo Mouth, we will navigate between the Chonos Archipelago to continue our route to Puerto Montt.

Day 8: Arrival and Disembarkation at Puerto Oxxean - Puerto Montt

Continuing our journey north, we will sail through the Gulf of Corcovado, then through the Apiao Channel, the Gulf of Ancud, and the Seno de Reloncaví, to finally arrive in Puerto Montt in the morning, where this great adventure will come to an end.
