One of the best trips you can do in your life would be to travel the Patagonia of Aysén and the Carretera Austral. In this program you will be able to know the Jeinimeni National Reserve, Tortel Cove, the Marble Chapels and the General Carrera Lake from different points of view, both in Chile and Argentina.

Day 1: Apt. Balmaceda / Pto Ibáñez / Perito Moreno / Los Antiguos / Chile Chico.

What you will visit:

  • 2 General Carrera Lake

We wait for you at the Balmaceda airport in Aysén Patagonia. We will start the trip to the mountain range of Cerro Castillo to access to the basin of the General Carrera Lake. Then we get to Puerto Ibáñez and have a box lunch before crossing the border between Chile and Argentina.

The landscape of transition between the mountain range and the steppe is moving. We will have panoramic views of the lake with flora and fauna such as guanacos, ñandúes, foxes, eagles, condors and several species of wild geese.

After 2 hours, we arrive at the town called Perito Moreno in Argentina where we are going to stop for a delicious coffee. Then we continue bordering the Lake Buenos Aires, which is the same General Carrera Lake but on the Argentinean side.

After 40 minutes we reach at the beautiful coastal town of Los Antiguos where the border is located to access Chilean territory again.

Border crossing and arrival to Hotel Posada del Río located only 500 meters from the Chilean Customs.

Day 2: Full Day Jeinimeni National Reserve(112 km)

What you will visit:

  • 1 Jeinimeni National Reserve

Breakfast at the Hotel Posada del Río in Chile Chico.

9:00 am: We will leave for the Jeinimeni National Reserve, entering the valley. We will get to know the rivers and rock formations within the reserve, where we can make a quiet trekking trail to get into nature and find a nice place to share a delicious box lunch.

Return to Hotel Posada del Río, Chile Chico.

Day 3: Chile Chico / Cave of the Hands and Moon Valley (60 km)

What you will visit:

  • 1 Jeinimeni National Reserve

After breakfast, we will have a day of trekking through one of the most beautiful archaeological sites of the Jeinimeni Valley. We will observe ancestral paintings in the Cueva de las Manos and surprise us with the erosion effect of the rocks that form the Lunar Valley.

We will have lunch during our tour, surrounded by nature. We will return to the hotel to rest.

Day 4: Chile Chico / Lago General Carrera / Parque Patagonia / Cochrane (188 km)

8:00 am: Departure from the hotel in Chile Chico and we getting along the General Carrera Lake until arriving at the Patagonia Park, located in the famous valley of Chacabuco.

We  enter the Patagonia Park and have a box lunch in the middle of nature. This park is a place of protection and conservation of the environment whose founder was Douglas Tomkins. We are going to visit the cemetery where his remains are found.

Then, we continue our way bordering the Baker River until we reach the city of Cochrane where we will lodge.

Day 5: Cochrane / Tortel / Cochrane (280 Km)

8:00 am: We continue our route along the Carretera Austral heading south. The road will take us between mountains and narrow valleys, forests, rivers and lakes that are part of this landscape. A few kilometers before reaching Caleta Tortel, we are stopping for lunch.

2:30 pm: We arrive at Caleta Tortel, a town that is characterized by its footbridges, picturesque architecture and its landscape.

In the afternoon, we start the return to Cochrane, to stay in the cabins.

Day 6: Cochrane / Río Baker / Marble Chapels / Chile Chico (136 km)

What you will visit:

  • 2 Baker River

We will have an early breakfast to leave around 09:00 am from Cochrane along the Carretera Austral heading north along the Baker River, to access the Lake General Carrera basin, but this time skirting the west coast.

We will sail by boat to see the famous Marble Chapels from the water, with its history and mystique. Later we will return to land, we will share the box lunch and we will continue towards Chile Chico to rest.

Day 7: Chile Chico / Lake Crossing / Pto Ibáñez / Balmaceda

Transfer: Hotel Airport in Coyhaique

We will have breakfast at 07:00 am to board the Ferry Tehuelche that will cross us through the General Carrera Lake in a navigation of aprox 2 and a half hours. We will disembark in Puerto Ibáñez to take the route to Balmaceda Airport, about 1:15 hrs, where our adventure will end.
